Self Reflection 2

Self-Reflection #2

In this course we studied different things like how to conduct a meeting and the important parts of making a meeting interesting and successful, how to do a presentation that attracts the audience and amaze them, how to make an admirable and attractive CV and cover letter. I improved several different kinds of communication skills and writing skills. That’s to say, I learned how to write down the CV and cover letter, but most importantly, I learned how to write down a report above those two. Also, how to keep eye contact during a presentation and how to present a good introduction and conclusion in a presentation.

The biggest challenge in work communication would be to maintain a good connection between the members, co-workers or audience and having a productive meeting. However, to solve these problems, learning communicative skills such as eye contact, avoiding being nervous and speak confidently are essential to have a good connection. Furthermore, to have a productive meeting we need to plan the meeting before hand, and set an agenda and what we want to produce by the end of it. If the product is reached by the end of the meeting then the meeting is successful, otherwise it’s a waste of time.

The course N307 is a very important part of every major, it doesn’t have to be specified for specific majors in anyway. It builds up a person’s skills from writing CVs and cover letters to communication skills in meetings and presentations, which are very essential for every student in his study life and work career.

Self Reflection 1

Self-Reflection #1

A meeting is usually conducted when a group of people try to get to study, discuss a topic and come out with a decision and a product. A meeting can only be effective if the objective and the product are clear. There are also few other reasons to how a meeting could be effective. For example, having a clear agenda, addressing important matters, not getting distracted by side issues being punctual and finally documenting what goes in the meeting.

Our meeting proceeded well, started right on time but ended 5 minutes earlier than expected. My role in the meeting was the chair, and we accomplished in the meeting with actions to be taken on how to increase the number of enrolled students in the upcoming years.

There was a small difference between our practice meeting and the graded meeting. In our practice meeting, we got the chance to discuss, fix our agenda in a more suitable way. On the other hand, in the graded meeting, we were strict with time to come up with an agenda in few minutes, which limited our discussion with fewer ideas.

To make the meeting interesting as a manager, I'd start with some icebreaker questions for the members and have them share interesting moments from their lives. I'd also server snacks and include all members into the discussion and give everyone a chance to speak up their mind. Vary the types of meeting each time, changing its style. Include tokens that gives permission to speak rather than have someone monopolizes the discussion.
